Osteopathy was discovered by Andrew Taylor Still in 1874. The first school of Osteopathy was created by AT Still in 1892 in Kirksville, Missouri.
This practice is guided by 5 principals:
- For a good state of health, the circulation of the body must stay open.
- The human body has the ability to self-regulate. Our objective is to relieve the points that are disrupting self-regulation to help the body’s system self-heal.
- Life is movement, we must stay in motion. The body’s tissues must maintain enough elasticity to reduce inflammation and pain. This aids the body in resetting its natural functions.
- There is a give-and-take relationship between the body’s structure and functions as they work together. Treatment approaches focus on the structure of the body to in turn help the body reset its different functions.
- With a holistic view, we consider the body as interconnected between one’s physical and mental state. We take time to discuss how the patient is feeling, their medical history, personal background, major life events, and anything that may impact their state of overall well-being.
